Have you heard of the podcast “My Dad Wrote a Porno” ? This book is like that.
Hilarious, British, gay, and honestly not all that sexy despite all the sex.
It was bloody brilliant. I laughed at so much in this book, which is a rarity for me considering I read much more somber genres usually.
And there is a lot to relate to with Julia finding herself as a 20-something year old, from her sexuality, to her job, her friendships and chasing her dreams (or lack there of).
Julia is a 20-something year old Londoner; and if she’s honest she’s at a bit of a standstill: she hasn’t had sex in 3 years (it was bad enough to scare someone off sex for 3 years), she’s a temp in a job she doesn’t care for, she refuses to even watch dancing since her dreams where crushed when she broke her ankle, and most of her time is spent watching Netflix while her housemates get it on in the other room.
Until she tags along to a hip art exhibition and she meets a sexy and charismatic artist.... called Jane. Julia jumps in at the deep end of her new lesbian life, navigating all the highs and lows of her life, hobbies and relationships; and finding herself. • • •
So this book is NOT SAFE FOR WORK. There is a whole lot of sex in it- from shitty couch sex to wild bdsm dungeons- but it was pretty damn hilarious. There is a whole more than that to this story: I think you will know from the synopsis if this book is for you. If you are interested- trust me it’s hilarious. I can’t remember exactly what Bridget Joneses Diary was like but that’s definitely the ballpark- I’m pretty sure this is way better though!
