I received "Ikenga" by Nnedi Okorafor from BookishFirst. It's a cute novel. I know as an adult I am not the intended audience so I keep that in mind as I review it. I just wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be. . It's definitely a coming of age YA/middle grade novel. The storyline is interesting. If you're a fan of superheroes- this is a novel that you'll like.
As a reader in America I think what is really beneficial for me is the fact that this novel is set in a world that is new to me. I was, as a reader, able to enter into the world and understand what was happening as Okorafor does a great job of explaining details of the customs, habits, food, and behaviors of the people in the community.
