I've noticed that its been harder and harder for younger teens to find a book that they can really connect with. I believe Ikenga will fill that void.

The book opens up with Nnamdi's father's funeral. It gives the reader a true look at how things really are in Nigeria and how the rich are really in charge.

The book has a magical undertone to it as Nnamdi receives a magical object from his father's ghost called the Ikenga. The Ikenga gives him almost hulk like powers. This is powerful magic for a 12 year old to have who is trying to get revenge on his father's killers. However, in order to use the powers, he has to use them for good and learn to control them.

There was certain sense of innocence that I got from the book. I certainly enjoyed this book.
