I read this as an adult, so my opinion comes from that perspective. This is definitely a middle grade book, and my rating reflects what I think a middle grader would think of this book. It is not quite that entertaining to read as an adult, because the story is somewhat simplistic.

It basically involves Nnamdi developing supernatural/superhero abilities and fighting a series of crimes and trying to solve the mystery of his father's death. Of course, along the way, he learns a lot about life and himself and grows in more ways than one.

I really enjoyed being transported to Africa with this story and seeing what life is like there. There is more than just the plot happening here; we are exposed to many things through this story that I wouldn't have known about otherwise. This will be a good book to expose children to another culture, but it's also fun and adventurous enough that they won't feel like they're learning.
