I mainly entered this contest through Bookishfirst to try to win this for my 10 year old. She loves fantasy and loves finding new books, and I am so thankful we won this copy to let her experience a cultural fantasy novel for her age range! This book hits many strong points that are real world such as experiencing death of a loved one and the grief, sadness, and anger that follows. This touches on revenge and wanting to not be helpless in a situation that was uncontrollable by Nnamdi. Then Nnamdi is given these "HULK" powers and he needs to learn control, and use them for good. Many life lessons with a fantasy twist that shows a boy coming into a man learning to be the best version of himself through tragedy and overcoming the odds. I was just as excited to read it and then talk to my daughter about it. Some of it was a little different for her since it deals with different culture, but I like that gave her a gateway into something new and unknown!
