There was a lot that I liked about this story. The friendship between Nnamdi and Chioma was really awesome. I really loved both characters and specially how Chioma was not only a very good friend to Nnamdi when he really needed it but how she was also like the voice of reason, how she always helped him do the right thing. To me she was very mature for her age but it was good and definitely helped the story.
This book deals with a few themes that I wasn't quite sure if I felt ok with this book being for middle grade/children. It has death of a parent, murder, guns/shooting, car jacking, thefts, depression and a few other themes that I thought might be too much for the young ones. If you have a very mature 10 year old then I guess this one is OK. In my case, I wouldn't have given this story to my kids till they were like 15 or older. It does read like a young book tho but it does have mature themes. So I would suggest for parents to read it first and decide when their kids can read it.
I have to say that the best part of this story was one of the twists, I did not see it coming at all, it really did take me by surprise. I was happy about the twist but when it came to "whodunit" it was very blah, like I obviously didn't even think about that person being the murderer, but it really did nothing for me. In the end I was like, Oh that's who did it? Didn't really care at all.
The story has some action and it will keep you reading. I would recommend this book.
