For a middle grade book, there's a lot going on here. The story of 12-year-old Nnamdi following the murder of his father is harrowing. There's a lot of emotion packed into these first pages. The corruption is literally running rampant in the streets in the first few chapters. It's a strange sensation to be rooting for a young hero while also knowing that these are matters way beyond what he should be dealing with. The mythology aspect is really just getting going and I look forward to seeing Nnamdi fully embrace and grow to understand the Ikenga.
