In IKENGA, the reader first meets eleven-year-old Nnamadi looking at his murdered father's body in an ebony casket. If that isn't difficult enough, he criminal he suspects of causing the murder, the Chief of Chiefs is not only at the funeral but wearing the father's ring. There is no proof. It is "as if a ghost ad shot his father and then fled back to the Spirit World to laugh...."

A year later, things are worse and worse. Robberies are common in the town and Nnamadi and his mother are barely getting by. Then, at his father's memorial, the father appears as a spirit to Nnamadi. He gives him a supernatural object, an Ikenga. How could I not want to keep reading?
