I was surprised by how much I ended up enjoying this after being conflicted about the first chapter. Liang set up the rivals aspect early and kept saying how Alice hated Henry so much which I find unconvincing. I quickly changed my opinion as the story progressed. As speculative fiction in which the protagonist can turn invisible, it didn’t read as a science fiction book or completely infeasible. This is made so by the way Alice and her friends discuss her invisibility in a calm manner and see it as a power rather than a real problem.

Alice and Henry are not unlikable characters and I enjoyed seeing them grow together. Watching them work together to complete their Beijing Ghost tasks was enjoyable. My favorite aspect was the location. Being set in China allowed the reader to be immersed in a different culture where the food, daily life, and education system are all interesting.

Honestly, there’s not much else to say. The book was short and simple but fun.
