If You Could See the Sun is a YA story about a Chinese American girl who uses her new power to make money and pay her school fee. It is such a great story and very unique. Our main character is Alice Sun and she is a scholarship student among China’s most rich and influential teens. She learns she is only getting a partial scholarship and must figure something out or leave the school. After a horrible encounter with her nemesis, she starts shaking and feels strange, she looks in the mirror and she is invisible. Why she does freak out a bit (who wouldn't) she also realizes that this opens up an interesting door for her. She can charge people for information and use the money to pay for school. The story also has a rival to lovers' romance with Alice and Henry her nemesis. Their chemistry is great and it was fun to see her developing in the romance. I thought that the setting was interesting, a ritzy boarding school full of elites and snobs. The characters were strong and I especially enjoyed Alice and Henry. The plot was smart and really moved fast. There are a lot of messages in the story such as racism, inequality, poverty, and more. They were all handled really well and made you think. I look forward to reading more by this author.
