Beyond looking at the beautiful artwork on the cover, If You Could See the Sun is a story about an extremely ambitious student attending a private school that her parents can no longer afford. With all the stress her in life and lack of any true friendships, Alice has recently acquired an unusual ability, she can become invisible. But this new skill can be used to change her financial status.

This YA novel was really a genuine surprise to me. It is such a unique concept (not sure if it's quite magical realism, but does have some aspects). The idea of feeling unseen and therefore becoming literally invisible sounds odd, but Ann Liang really made it work so well. Alice is a likeable character and her anxiety issues felt genuinely honest and gave her depth. I also thought her chemistry with her archnemesis Henry was spot on and perfectly sweet. I love a good will they or won't they story. As Alice gets a better understanding of her "power," she slowly gets in over her head and gets in more and more dangerous positions. Parts of this book were thriller-esque and the pacing was excellent. I would totally be interested in reading a sequel to this.
