This book made me think. It asks a big question, what would you do in order to keep your family and those you love safe? I feel like I would do anything, but betraying everything you believe to support something you know is so wrong? Wow. I can’t imagine being out in that situation, yet as in this book, I bet many were. The author again brilliantly put us in the middle of history, in a period I didn’t know much about, and I ate it up. I sympathized with, yelled at, cried for the characters. The descriptions were vivid and I often looked up from the book to wonder where I was. I was that immersed in this tale. I feel like this authors books are the best that historical fiction has to offer, easy to follow, factual and interesting. They are filled with heart riffing moments and moments that enrage you are the cruelty of man. I loved this book and highly recommend it.
