Every book that Ruth sepetys opens up my world and mind a little more. In this new story she opens the world of Romania during the rule of Nicolae Ceaușescu. The main character and narrator 17 year old Cristian Florescu immediately draws the reader into this time and shows us first hand what life is like for a family living in Romania. I immediately felt the fear Cristian was experiencing when he walked into the office and confronted a secret service police. And at that point I knew he would be taking on an even more dangerous role in order to keep his family safe. I can’t wait to read this entire novel to find out where life takes Cristian and his family, and do they come l it as survivors at the end?
