I've never heard of this author, but the writing did seem solid. This isn't generally a genre I read, and nothing about the sample made me think "I can't let this one pass me by!" It was a bit too somber, which is pretty much the opposite of what I'm looking for in fiction these days. Perhaps I would feel differently at another time.
