Excited for the latest from Ruta Sepetys!
I have read Ruta Sepetys' other books and have been looking forward to something new from her. This excerpt does not disappoint, introducing us to the compelling main character Cristian and immediately creating a mood of suspense, desperation, and paranoia--after all, this is Ceausescu's Romania in the late 80's, where the walls have ears and basic resources are scarce or nonexistent. Cristian has dreams for his life but it seems that the Romanian government has other plans for him; will he attain what he desires or will he be crushed by the forces of the oppressive regime he must live under? I am excited to read more and find out the rest of Cristian's story.
