My first Gayle Forman novel follows three young adults navigating their personal worlds and relationships. Freya is a well-known YouTube singer on her rise to fame. She has been recording her first professional album under her manager’s eye when she suddenly loses her voice. Harun comes from a Muslim devout family. He is set to be sent off to Pakistan to find a wife for an arranged marriage the next day, but he has been keeping a secret from his family. Nathaniel has come to New York city after a family crisis has left him reeling. All three of these young people collide with each other one fateful day when they are all feeling like they have lost their way.

Unfortunately, this one just didn’t do it for me. There were many odd coincidences that seemed too unrealistic. The events that follow the three after they mysteriously meet just didn’t mesh for me. I found their individual stories to self-acceptance to be the best parts of the novel. The parts where they were together just didn’t jive for me.
