Very slow paced
It starts off with an interesting scenario: main character loses special talent for unknown reasons despite seemingly good physical health. Cue over bearing parent who cares more about the talent than the kid.
It quickly drops off into a lull pacing that is agonizingly slow. The narration drags and there are tangents in the plot which seem to distract but I'm sure if I read the whole book, will have some pay off.
This would probably be a borrow from the library first book instead of purchase.
