Margaret Jacobson was the well adjusted, successful confident member of a dysfunctional family. Everything she had ever wanted lay at her footsteps. Her long-term boyfriend was about the propose marriage. The job of her dreams was hers for the asking, and she had just closed on a new condo, emblematic of her newly achieved success. She was happy beyond words.

Then everything changed.

Despite of her fear of flying, her boyfriend took her up in his new Cessna airplane in order to surprise her with his proposal. On the way back to the airport, the weather changed, resulting in a horrific plane crash that left Margaret in the hospital ICU badly burned and struggling for her life. After a week filled with operations and skin grafts, Margaret was moved to the room she would occupy for most of the next two months. With it was the realization that her lower legs were paralyzed.

As we watch Margaret struggle through her recovery, we are introduced to a half-dozen people--all of whom are part of Margaret's life. Each of them are in their own way handicapped by the hurts, misunderstandings, prejudices, and mistakes of life. As we watch Margaret collect the shards of what had been her life and transform them into the new mosaic of her future, we learn a lot about both the brokenness that life occasionally brings and what it takes to bring about healing.

This book is a masterful story of hope, one that I was loath to put down until the journey was complete.
