Post-accident romance.
Our heroine has been in an accident and is facing the physical and psychological problems / challenges that result from that. This is definitely Chick Lit, and I wouldn't necessarily turn to it before reading, say, adventure-fantasy, but I ended up caring about the characters and wondering how things would turn out with our heroine's inevitable romantic paramour.
In real life, the physical harm that an accident victim might suffer might be truly horrendous, but in this story of course what she suffers is severe enough to be horrible and life-changing, but not so awful that she won't still possess some of her original physical beauty. I don't know if a movie version would be even more look-ist, or more focused on something more challenging, but I know I want to think of our heroine being pretty.
A lot of the book is about our heroine's relationship with her family and what goes on in the hospital, but the crux of the book is the potential romance that she will find. When you read the book and care about the characters, you'll definitely enjoy the last bit of the book where you find out how everything works out.
