I’m not sure how to categorize How to Walk Away – Women’s fiction? Romance? Contemporary? It has some of the light and fluffy elements of a romance novel but also tackles harder hitting topics and emotions. Our protagonist, Margaret, was left paralyzed after an accident involving her fiance, and the trajectory of her life takes a sharp turn. Along with the romantic relationship that is explored in this novel, there is also exploration of other important relationships – especially sisterhood! I love a good sister story. My views on this book may be slightly biased – I am an occupational therapist who has worked with spinal cord injury patients, so I was particularly interested in the rehab and recovery (both physical and emotional) sections of the novel.
