I adored this book! One of my favorites of 2018.
My favorite takeaway was the author’s ability to create a message of life being a counterbalance of both suffering and joy - you must have one in order to have capacity for the other. It’s how you choose to look at your circumstances and find happiness, despite life not being the planned picture you have in mind.
The fact that this novel started out with a huge moment, made the rest of it a series of little moments that all played into the storyline. It kept the entire novel engaging.
With a book as heart-wrenching as this, it had to have a great ending. I found that the author took the ending above & beyond.
“You can’t fix everything. Not even close. But you can look for reasons to be grateful. More than that, you can work to create them.”
