This author has a masterful way of interspersing the present with the past so that in this first chapter you truly know the characters - their personalities, their fears, their backgrounds and the complications they bring into their relationship. The situation in this chapter develops gradually but with such intensity you find your heart pounding by the last few paragraphs. I'm going to love this book!
