Slow start and a bit too juvenile

Unfortunately, I couldn’t really get into How to Survive Your Murder, although I did finish it. The second half was definitely better (in my opinion), but it was a slow start. I love Young Adult, but as an adult, I like when they lean a little more towards adult in some way: content, writing style, humor, whatever it might be. I couldn’t say the same for this and it seemed a little too juvenile for me. So, not a bad thing, per say, for what may have been its intended audience, but also not for me. There is definitely a major plot twist, which I appreciated, but it wasn't enough to redeem the book in my eyes. While it may be fun for scary movie fans, which I am actually not (so that didn't help), but I was also very annoyed with the redundancies of the author's constant naming of what would happen in a scary movie at any given point in the book. It was more than one too many references.
