Overall, I did enjoy reading this First Look excerpt. First off, I'd like to state that this novel is for kids 12+, so as a 22 year old (who started obsessively reading from a young age), I understand this is not for me! The writing definitely fits in well to the teen novel genre, along with the characters. The main character, Alice, is one that is often seen in such books (i.e. not like the other girls, introverted, "loser," yet somehow attracts hot, older heartthrob?) Nothing wrong with that, as when I was young I enjoyed placing myself into that same character. Some references to youth culture, "wokeness," and true crime/horror seem a little heavy-handed and cringe for me, but I am also an avid true crime follower. This first look ends with the death of her sister, so it is just the introduction to the plot. I look forward to read the parts of the main book, where she supposedly goes back to help save her!
