This book was a perfect witchy queer read. I loved learned about the world and how magic was worked into a modern United States (mostly the negative aspects of the US). That realism was one of my favorite parts.
Most of the plot was not a surprise based on the book jacket. Still, I think the enemies-to-lovers trope was executed perfectly, especially since I knew it was coming. Watching Shayna and Ana get together was great because of how much Shayna's feelings towards Ana changed from the beginning of the book to the end.
Lex was also a great supporting character. I would love to see a sequel like 10 years in the future where Shayna has taken over Pilar's potion shop and Ana is running a dance studio and Lex is being a queer sports icon. This world has so much potential and I loved being in it! I only gave it 4 stars because the plot was so predictable. I kept reading because I liked being in the world, not because I wanted to find out what was going to happen.
Yay for a happy ending!
