Spell-binding, powerful, romantic, and fun!

I can’t think of a better book to start my October reads with, this queer academic-rivals-to-friends-to-??? was a breath of fresh air. Queer main characters were explicitly and unapologetically queer while also having flaws and not acting 100% perfectly. Seeing them work through issues from the smallest friendship tiffs to larger, institutional injustices is something powerful for younger audiences to read. Brophy weaves an incredible world of witchcraft set in modern times, where potion making and Starbucks co-exist. Add in extensive history, a whole musical, quotes and more from the worldbuilding and you got a Fantasy (and musical) lover sold!! The romantic tension and awkward conversation was stellar and had me smiling the whole way through.
This is definitely a book you do NOT want to put down!
