This was a fast-paced middle grade story. Based on other's reviews I'm not sure that people knew that this was middle grade instead of young adult fiction. I love that her family was a big part of this story and even though they wanted a different life for our main character they were present in her life and we're very obviously important to her. I enjoyed the magic system and the world, but the ending was wrapped up a little too quickly and people's motivations seemed to flip at the drop of a hat. The description of food and locations made me want to travel to the Amalfi Coast so badly and crave everything Giada was eating. This is a very well rounded story about standing up for what you want and need to even the most loving, if misguided family and the importance of doing what is best for you, but that you don't need to cut ties with your family to achieve your goals
