I found this book to be a fun and engaging read, one that entertained for the few hours that I listened to it. Basically, this is a short and sweet book, good for younger middle grade readers. In this book, Giada struggles with her desire to help care for animals rather than people, the type of magic that her family specializes in, which leads to the conflict in the story where she faces off against supposedly terrible magical creature to save her brother and then her friend and then her entire family as more and more of the people who she loves are taken captive by these magical creature. If you could not surmise by the tone of the previous sentence, I felt like the stakes escalated in a slightly unbelievable way. Even with that though, I enjoyed my read of the book and especially the setting, modern Greece which made this a fairly average yet enjoyable read.
