How to Heal a Gryphon was an exceptional middle grade read. Whenever I read middle grade books like this I get excited for kids growing up right now and the ones still yet to come. I'll always emphasize my love of sibling relationships within books, and while Giada and her older brother are not together that much within the story (I mean she's trying to save him for Pete's sake!), the fact that the entire plot centered their relationship was enough to make me teary eyed. I have an older brother myself, so I just saw myself a lot in Giada. She's headstrong and set on what she wants to do, and it reminded me of myself at that age because I was also a sassy kid that wanted to scream at the world. Middle grade leads with complicated personalities are truly what other kids should read about. Not everyone is a monolith in attitudes and desires, and I love Giada's acceptance and drive for that path.
