This was such a fun and sweet middle grade story!

I will say that it took me a little bit of time to get into the story. But once I did, I truly was engaged in the plot.

I loved the concept of Giada coming from a long line of magical healers, but would rather heal animals than people (despite her family's expectations). That's something that many kids, young and old, can related to--sticking up for your dreams/beliefs, even to your own family.

I liked that Giada wasn't your typical middle grade main character, in that she wasn't particularly likable. It will be interesting to see how readers in the intended middle grade age group will react to her character.

I also enjoyed that Italian setting of this story, as I haven't read many books in this setting. The description of food was absolutely amazing!

While I don't read a ton of middle grade, I'm glad I had a chance to read this one!
