Interesting topic. I'm not sure I like the second voice perspective. It was a bit distracting and stopped me from being drawn into the narrative. The writing is well done. The historical perspective is depressing. The fact that it was ever a law that prevented interracial marriages blows my mind. Whole this book isn't for me, I can see that a large audience would be drawn into reading it. It is a topic that is not usually explored and in this political climate it is also timely. I do like that it's told from a younger narrators perspective. That always makes it easier to handle sensitive topics. The main character brings a sense of innocence that allows the audience to experience what life was like in the late 60s. It might be a good book club book. Seems like there is much to be discussed about this book. I have a deep repact for authors who write historical fiction. It's a lot of work.
