"How to Find What You're Not Looking For" follows a year in the life of twelve-year-old Ariel Goldberg. Very quickly, things start changing in her life, for better or worse. Her sister elopes and leaves her alone, her parents have their own issues going on that they won't talk to Ariel about, and a new teacher starts to notice her abilities in a different way than in previous years.

I loved this book. I received it in the mail today and also read the whole thing today. I always enjoy reading books that include middle-grade characters. I feel like people that age have a lot going on and are just trying to figure life out, like Ariel. This book takes place in 1967, right after the groundbreaking Loving vs. Virginia court case. It talks about discrimination based on religion, race, and disability. All around, it was very well-written and the characters were very likable and easy to relate with.
