Ariel and Leah Goldberg are sisters and they are Jewish. The story takes place in 1967 and deals with interracial marriage. Their parents do no approve of Leah's non-Jewish Indian boyfriend. When she elopes they cut off ties with her. Ariel and Leah were very close and Ariel has a hard time dealing with the loss. She also has a learning disability that her sister helped her with when she lived with them.
Ariel and her friend Jane decide to go to New York to find Leah and her husband. They are about to give up and head home when they see Leah on the street. Leah and her husband go with the girls on the train to take them home and the ice between the parents and Leah starts to dissolve. Leah has a baby soon after and the families learn to get along and become a close family again.
I thought it was a good story about fighting the prejudice within the family.
