I basically entered this giveaway on a whim because the blurb was intriguing. I'm not usually one for second-person narration (I find it very jarring) but I think it works here; I just had to get used to it.

I really enjoyed this book. I don't think I've read any of Hiranandani's books before, but I think I need to go track them down after this.

This is a middle grade novel, but I think it will appeal to all ages. Ariel is a protagonist I couldn't help but root for, and the book discusses a lot of heavy topics (bullying, racism, etc) in a way that is not overwhelming for younger readers. This would be a great book to use as a tie-in novel when discussing the 1960s with middle schoolers. It gives a perspective on what life was like in that era, particularly for minorities, and could be used as a jumping off point for discussion of some of the events discussed in the novel.
