Wow! I wasn’t excepting to feel so moved my the opening paragraphs. This novel has a lot going on. It centers around a Jewish family in a small town that owns a bakery. I got the feeling that members of the community weren’t necessarily used to living around a Jewish family. So at its core I think this book will explore what it means to be prejudice from many angles. This hard working family is shocked when their oldest daughter Leah falls in love with Raj who well nice is obviously not Jewish. How will the family handle the major differences in culture and religion when they themselves have been the target of the same? I think the story being told from the perspective of 11-year old Ari is a great way to teach kids the values of religion, culture and what it means to face prejudice
