So I liked this book (at least what I have read of it so far) because it takes a concept explored in other books (interracial relationships) and places it in a new light, not only with the interracial relationship it presents, but also with the perspective it examines. Unlike most books which focus on black/white mixed couples, this one takes an Indian/Jewish couple, both of which are minorities but face their own sets of prejudices when they try to marry one another. The perspective is that of the Jewish girl's younger sister, who must battle her own sets of prejudice when reconciling with this change. I feel that this is perfect fodder for a coming of age story, and I would love to see how Hiranandi develops this further in the rest of the book.
