After reading the first few chapters of How to Find What You’re Not Looking For, it is obvious that this is a unique and intriguing historical fiction book for middle grade readers. It covers the topics of interracial marriage, prejudice, and racism. One of the unique things about the book is the use of second person point of view. This is rarely used in fiction (outside of choose your own adventure). It’s use makes the reader a character in the book and I think it also helps the reader to feel the emotions and develop empathy more readily. I can’t wait to read the rest of the book. I also like the cover. It’s bright, colorful, and inviting.
