I like this this is written from a child’s perspective. The narrator’s sister has fallen in love and wants to elope. She knows people won’t approve of her relationship, she’s Jewish and he’s from another country. This story takes place in the 1960’s and unfortunately the narrator is learning what racism is for the first time.
Here’s the thing, as a personal bias I don’t think I can read this book because it’s set in the third person. It’s nothing about the book itself but this writing style doesn’t work for me. I just find myself getting too distracted with the “you”. I don’t think I need to feel like I’m an actual character in this story in order to get into it.
