Maybe it's just because I like my middle grade to be more on the fantastical/adventure side, but didn't find this book interesting enough to reel me in. I'm not interested in reading more to find out what happens next. I think the book being set when it is too makes the story feel dated rather than enduring. I think the cover has too much going on.
