How It Feels to Float is a powerfully written novel, discussing important subjects such as mental illness, sexuality, grief, family. The characters, particularly the main character, Biz, are honest and relate-able. Helena Fox's writing style is lyrical, poetic even, which makes the story flow, and keeps the reader turning the pages. By drawing on her own experiences the author brings to light issues people face every day, but are often considered taboo in "polite society", which gives voice to people who suffer through mental illness and self-doubt. While it only took a couple of days to read, this book has stayed with me, with quotes and scenes floating to the surface from my subconscious.
