While I was reading this , the soundtrack from 13 Reasons Why began to play in my head, this book is begging for a Spotify list. The main character Biz transcends Hannah Baker, and is a stronger protagonist than Sutter Keely in The Spectacular Now. Helena Fox writes with an atmospheric stream of consciousness addressing all of Biz's grief, fears, and addresses how fragile the human mind is. When Biz walks out into the waves as "they speak to her", enter Jasper the mysterious new boy who saves her from drowning. From that moment the group of friends accepts him. No one asks Biz why she was out in the waves, her friends are oblivious to her inner turmoil, they just accept her as quirky, ignoring this as a cry for help. This book will move the reader into looking closer at their friends and loved ones, wIll make them examine their own inner dialogue. I cannot wait to read the full book, the prose Ms Fox writes is classic and haunting, undoubtedly this will be one of the most important books of the year, leaving wake of book hangovers . Librarians need to preorder this for their teen section now, and add this to the Good Reads best YA of 2019.
