Arvin Ahmadi does a wonderful job at bringing the main character, Amir, to life. There are not many stories out there about Iranian Muslim teens coming out of the closet and how difficult it can be. While parts of the story were inspired by Ahmadi's experiences, it was easy to forget that this story is fictional.

I love the shifting storylines. How the author bounces back and forth from Amir's journey to Rome and his experiences in Rome to he and his family being detained at the airport and their dialogues with U.S. Customs agents as they retell what occurred during the flight. This was a very creative way to let the story unfold and for each family member to share their perspective.

While reading I found myself cheering for Amir as he learns to accept himself and life his authentic life.

How It All Blew up is a fantastic read!!
