The idea of a gay Muslim story was very intriguing to me and I really enjoyed reading the first few pages of the book through BookishFirst, so much so that I claimed a free copy of the book with my earned points. While I enjoyed the book, it wasn't quite what I thought it was going to be. Was there a coming-of-age theme? Yes. What there a coming out theme? Yes. Was there a Muslim theme? Sort of. I felt like the book was more cultural and less religious than I had initially expected from the description. But that's on me, not the book or the author. I expected something different from the initial description than what was really there.
This is the first book that I have read by Arvin Ahmadi. I look forward to reading more in the future.
