How It All Blew Up by Arvin Ahmadi - thoroughly enjoyable. Amir is 18 years old, Muslim, and no where near coming out. A bully at school blackmails him, and we're off. What could be only gut wrenching is a beautiful coming of age story about found family. Family and gelato and Rome and nights that last into the next day made this an excellent trip. It's no surprise it's getting rave reviews from all your favorite YA authors.

The novel is set up in two converging timelines that end in the security offices of an airport, and features a cast of warm, flawed friends and family trying to support Amir with varying degrees of success. Amir is able to be exactly himself for the first time and it's a joyful read (and a quick one, I read it in a day).

This is author Arvin What's third book and I will definitely check out his other work.
