I absolutely adored this book. It covered such an important topic in a very personal way.

Amir is a very likeable (but flawed) character. He makes plenty of mistakes, but he always has the best intentions in mind. Not to mention, he is fighting against forces he cannot control, including his own mind given his own observations growing up.

This story is beautiful in the fact that it gives us a glimpse into the mind of a teenager struggling with their sexuality. We see the confusion, the hurt, and the despair they feel. The terror in wondering what their family might think of them. It's absolutely heartbreaking. However, Amir wrote the story both with grace and wit. He gave us a beautiful story of a young man coming to accept himself while also allowing some laughts.

The characters are likeable. The friendships Amir gained in Rome were fun, but also led Amir on a great path to self-discovery and being comfortable in his own skin. I also adored Ahmadi's portrayel of Amir's family where they place Amir being their son above all else. His mother had a line about being a mother first that brought literal tears to my eyes.

Overall, the story was compelling and beautiful. It's a pretty quick read, so I suggest everyone read it!
