***SPOILER ALERT***: How It All Blew Up by Arvin Ahmadi was an impactful, yet fun read. The book follows Amir's journey as he grapples with being gay and Muslim. It was easy to read, and the story line moved quickly. I normally do not like when books are written in different time periods and switch between perspectives, but I found the use of the excerpts from interviews with different family members refreshing. While I enjoyed the story, and love that this novel was partially based upon a true story, I felt there was not enough closure in the end. The story ended very abruptly, and there was no real indication that Amir's father had truly come around. I wanted to read a little more about the aftermath of what happens once Amir and his family return to America. I also felt that Amir and Jackson should have had more closure, considering that Jackson is really where Amir's story starts. I felt Amir owed Jackson an explanation for ghosting him, and I wish Amir had a chance to explain himself.
