What happens when your sexual identity goes against your religion, your culture, and your family's values? In the case of Amir Azadi, you keep it a secret... until it snowballs into an uncontrollable mess and you find yourself being interrogated by airport security and accused of international terrorism. How It All Blew Up feels extremely topical with its central conflict of a gay Muslim teenager who struggles with coming out of the closet and the possible implications for him and his family. Right off the bat, Amir is subjected to harassment from his peers, from microaggressions to overt racism and bigotry. This story is filled with heavy themes, and the writing style reminds me of Angie Thomas' writing. It seems like it would be a good read for fans of The Hate U Give and On the Come Up
