This poor kid. I can't imagine a worse way to come out to one's family than a family feud on a transcontinental flight. Well, except maybe to end up in interrogation at an airport with the whole family in separate rooms. What a ride. I'm totally here for it. Whether or not this is a true story or the fictionalized account of a true story, I couldn't really say, but I'm not sure it matters. I love all the aspects of a uniquely original coming out story that doesn't just trot out the usual tropes, but turns the on their heads a little and gives me something fresh to read. There's blackmail, bullying, travel, bravery, cultural diversity, modernism verses traditionalism, and all against such a pop culture savvy backdrop. I read the excerpt and I wanted to keep reading.

He's only willing to sit quietly until it's over because his experience has taught him something about rooms like these and accusations like this. I was moved by that and maybe I read too much into it but it just struck me that way.
Anyway this was a beautiful excerpt and it was fun and funny, and touching, and I really want to know what happens next.
