How I Built This by Guy Raz is an extremely accessible book for budding entrepreneurs to learn the basics of the entire process of starting a business. I thought that the tone and stories included engender hope and positivity around the process while being realistic about the struggles new entrepreneurs may face.

I found this book exciting and interesting, and I think it has broad appeal to those beyond entrepreneurs. There are so many great personal interest stories about companies that we all know and love. I found myself enthralled in details like how Daymond John came up with his idea for FUBU or how two bachelors mixed up soap in their kitchen before coming up with Method cleaning products to the early cereal escapades of Airbnb.

This book is filled with useful tips for starting your business from how to get funding, how to get word of mouth, and so much more in a very accessible format that everybody can understand. Though I think that more in-depth research on starting a business would be needed to fully succeed, I thought Guy Raz's book was a great starting point that humanizes the process and gives hope that even ideas and companies that started from the humblest beginnings can grow to become successful enterprises.

Thank you to BookishFirst and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for the opportunity to read and review this book!
