Such a good premise, and such a disappointing ending

This book had me so excited. It seemed RIGHT up my alley: weird obsessive sisters, secrets, a fantastical threat, a gorgeous cover with flowers and hints of mild body horror...yes, please. And it was fun enough for the first third-to-half or so, but then the reveals started kicking in and... I was less than enthused. The richly evocative and disturbing world that this author takes us into is so fascinating and weird. There are flowers springing up out of dead bodies, the dank smell of forest and rot and milk follows the characters around wherever they go, and that's to say nothing of the delicious-seeming secret at the center of the novel. The Hollow sisters themselves are very interesting, if you're into that type of waifish white-girl thing (one is even the world's most famous supermodel-turned-fashion-house-owner), and the writing was rich and immersive, never quite falling into the purple realm it teeters on. However, again, the twists and reveals weren't satisfying, and the book itself left me a bit hollow (sorry).
